Wincanton and District Bowls Club

Originally started by Mr Laurie Carr in July 1996 with 47 Founder Members and then known as Wincanton Bowls Club -(in anticipation of the new facility which exists today) Wincanton & District Bowls Club was formally established on 24th October 2001.

The name change was necessary to avoid confusion with the ‘short-mat’ bowls club, which now bears the original name of the Club, who prior to World War 2 played on land located next to the Wincanton Memorial Hal. A photograph dated 1926 of Members is on display in the Maddocks Pavilion.

In October 2007, “Bowls England” took over from The English Bowling Association & English Women’s Bowling Association, hitherto known as EBA (now a unified body). The Club are also affiliated to the Wessex League.

The Club Captain and immediate past President both hold Level 2 Coaching Certificates. Club nights are held on Tuesdays & Thursdays after 6 pm.
